Blind Spot: The Chávez Twins
A World Sight Day special
Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the beautiful piano music of the talented Chávez Twins for a special lunchtime performance on World Sight Day. Pieces will include: Sonata for Piano Four Hands in D Major by Mozart, Mother Goose by Maurice Ravel and Alfonsina and the Sea by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez.
The world is full of stories of the power of music, and this story is a genuinely remarkable one. Kyle Macdonald, Classic FM
Identical twins Fabiana and Paula Chávez were born in Argentina and studied music at Santa Ana Institute, National University of Arts in Buenos Aires and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. They have achieved extraordinary success by performing as a piano duo, combining their tremendous charisma with their powerful music.
The pair started losing their sight as teenagers as a result of a rare genetic disorder called “Stargardt Disease”, which around ten years ago left them completely blind. They wish their performance to show that you can live without any physical sight as inner sight is the most important.
This performance is supported using public funding by Arts Council England and is a production of the Baluji Music Foundation. Founded in 2008 by Baluji Shrivastav OBE, the foundation runs the Inner Vision Orchestra which brings together visually impaired musicians from around the globe, including the Chávez Twins. The foundation and orchestra promotes diversity through music, educating and bringing awareness of artistic styles from all backgrounds.
