From Within is a deep dive into the mind of maestro Baluji Shrivastav OBE and his journey with visual impairment. This concert is not about a life without sight, but the mind that can create images through the senses, showcased to us through South Asian instruments: the resonating strings of the sitar, intricate beats and much more. 

“I often have wondered how an individual who is not able to see the Northern Lights, which for me are synonymous with Winter Solstice, would visualise the beginning of this magical season. 

The idea of creating a musical response to the Winter Solstice came out of a conversation between Opera North and SAA-uk – in 2021 we presented ‘Winter Solstice:Northern Lights', in 2022 ‘Winter Solstice: Music of the Mountains' and this year we invite you to experience ‘Winter Solstice: From Within'.”
